All funds raised at the Leeds SleepOut will go towards Latch, supporting young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in or around Leeds.

Too often when young people look to build their own future, move on from unstable or temporary housing, and enter employment, they face the immediate barrier of not being able to secure affordable rented accommodation. There are many reasons for this which include firstly, the lack of affordable housing and also their lack of tenancy history and referencesAs a result, young people can end up stuck in unsuitable, unsafe or insecure housing which has a long-term negative impact on their future prospects.

Latch purchases empty and rundown houses and refurbishes them to create good quality homes. Most of the refurbishment work is done by Latch staff and unemployed trainees. Some have construction experience already, while others learn new skills as they work on site.

When they’re fully modernised and furnished, our properties provide energy efficient supported housing for people who are homeless or in housing need, and are ready to make positive changes in their lives.

Latch’s support workers help people to settle into their new homes and get back on their feet

This project consists of the purchase, renovation and retrofit of 6 long-term empty properties. 3 bed-spaces  funded by the LandAid would be reserved for homeless young people. Alongside this, 8 young people who will benefit from construction training during the build phase.

More than 20 young people will be accommodated by the project on a long-term basis (18-24 months+) in the first 8 years of the project.

All funds raised at the Leeds SleepOut will be directed to this project.
