I'm taking part in the LandAid Virtual SleepOut

On 11th March I will be taking part in the LandAid Virtual SleepOut to raise money to help support young homeless people. The impact of the pandemic can be felt even more acutely by young people facing homelessness and LandAid’s goal is to eliminate youth homelessness.

In the West Midlands, there are 115 people sleeping rough on the streets. This is just the tip of the iceberg - hidden from view, there is a mass of hidden homelessness. There are some 8,500 young people without a secure home in the West Midlands. This is not acceptable.

In the Midlands, all funds raised will go to support a ground-breaking local project which is providing a sustainable route out of homelessness for young people in Birmingham. In partnership with local charity, St Basils, LandAid Midlands is aiming to convert a dilapidated site, owned by the NHS, into 52 units of truly affordable homes for young people who are homeless. Those young people will then be enrolled into apprenticeships within the Sandwell NHS trust, providing the training and jobs they need to take them out of homelessness, for good.
