Will we have a leader with us for the whole challenge?

add remove

We have experienced marshalls who will be there to lead you throughout the challenge. There will be marshals leading the group from the front, marhsalls dotted throughout the convoy of participants moving along the route and also leaders at the back ensuring everyone travels along the route safely.

We will be aiming to walk in a long convoy for as much as possible throughout the day! Your whole team will be relying on you to walk at a steady pace and support each other as you go!

We like to walk together as much as possible for morale and to help make our mountain leadership process smooth! If for whatever reason you decide to ignore our advice and head off on your own at any point, you will be operating outside of our safety support mechanisms and the support of our experienced and Outdoor First Aid qualified Mountain Leaders.

Will LandAid send me any important information prior to the event?

add remove

We'll be in regular contact by email with tips, hints, and updates to help keep you motivated with your training and fundraising, as well as all the important information you'll need for the day itself.

Sometimes our emails get caught in spam or quarantine filters, so if you haven't heard from us, check your junk files, and make sure trek@landaid.org & events@landaid.org are added to your safe senders list.

Can my friends and family come?

add remove

Yes absolutely. Whether its family, friends or colleagues, we’d love to have them participate with you! They have to be 18 years or older to take part in the Eastbourne Trek or anyone can take part in our Trek Your Way event.  Please ensure to get them registered for either event in advance.

Can I take part as a team?

add remove

Absolutely! You can join or create a team when registering for the Eastbourne Trek or Trek Your Way. When joining either event, you’ll have the option to fundraise as a team, and we have leaderboards to showcase how everyone’s fundraising is going.

Will there be a awards?

add remove

Yes we will have prizes for both the Eastbourne Trek & Trek Your Way events.

Awards to be revelaed soon.

Is it a race?

add remove

No — the Eastbourne Trek is not a race. We aim to walk in a long convoy for as much of the day as possible, moving at a steady, comfortable pace. Walking together helps create a great team atmosphere and allows everyone to support one another along the way.

We encourage participants to stay with the main group wherever possible, as this helps with morale and ensures our experienced marshals and Outdoor First Aid–qualified Mountain Leaders can provide support throughout the route.

If you do choose to walk independently, please note that you may not be able to access the full support of our rolling marshal team.

For Trek Your Way, you’re welcome to add your own friendly competitions, challenges, or flair to make the experience your own.

What happens if the weather is really bad?

add remove

The Trek will take place along a coastal area, and as a result of the prevailing winds and moisture-laden air, coastal weather can change very quickly. It is therefore important that you prepare for wet weather before your trek. That being said, we trek during the British summertime, so we always hope for dry and warm conditions.

Your leader will brief you at the start of the day to help you prepare, but if you plan for the worst weather British conditions can throw at you on challenge day, you can only be pleasantly surprised by the conditions.

If adverse weather conditions arise, the Trek Leaders will confirm whether it is safe to continue.

Can I bring my pet?

add remove

As much as we love four legged friends, the Trek is for humans only (sorry!). Assistance and guide dogs are allowed, please let us know ahead of the event at the trek@landaid.org so we can make any necessary adjustments.

Pets are welcome on your Trek Your Way events.

Is there any support for posting on social media?

add remove

Yes our Communication Team have put together a comms guide to help you. Over the last few years, we have all learnt just how important and powerful social media can be. The world has gone digital – so when it comes to promoting a cause, it’s important you feel equipped to navigate the world of social media. If you have any specific questions, email us at trek@landaid.org

Training

Can you help with my training?

add remove

You must prepare thoroughly for the Eastbourne Trek, but don’t worry — we’re here to help you every step of the way. We provide a kit list, nutrition guidance, training plans, and a team of experienced Mountain Leaders to guide you along the route.

For our 40km trek, we strongly advise investing 12 weeks in training. If you are already very fit and active, you may consider the 10-week training plan.

For our 20km trek, we strongly advise investing 8 weeks in training. If you are already very fit and active, you may consider the 6-week training plan.

Trek Your Way events are self-organised, meaning you choose your own route, location, and training schedule. We’re still happy to share training tips, advice, and guidance, but it’s up to you to decide how best to prepare for your chosen challenge.

You can view our training plans on our Route page here.

How can I track my fitness activity?

add remove

Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts!

If you track your workouts with Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Strava your distances will automatically add to your tally.

Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:

1. Download the FitbitStrava or MapMyFitness app and set up your account

2. Log in to your [charity or event name] account.

3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.

4. Follow the prompts to connect your account

5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

When using MapMyFitness, you must ‘start’ your workout, ‘stop’ your workout and then ‘SAVE’ your workout.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

Remember, you can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your My Fitness Activity tab of your profile after registering. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.

Follow these steps to manually add your KMs:

1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’

2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance

3. The number of KMs will now appear on your fundraising page!

Fundraising

Do I need to raise a specific amount to take part?

add remove

The minimum fundraising target is £800 for the Eastbourne Trek and £100 for the Trek Your Way event. We ask that participants make their best effort to raise funds for LandAid in connection with my participation in the event and aim to meet the minimum target. Additionally, you will aim to raise 50% of the fundraising target by 14 September 2026. All payments must be made to LandAid within two calendar months of the event date (17 November 2026).

One of the best ways to help reach your fundraising target is by asking your employer if they provide matched funding, allowing you to double your fundraising amount.

Is there a deadline to have raised money by?

add remove

The deadline for fundraising is the 19th November 2026. This can be extended is required, please get in touch with the LandAid team if you have any concerns.
