The South Downs Way

Take on one of the South Coast’s most iconic long-distance trails as we trek the legendary South Downs Way, starting in Eastbourne and pushing deep into the rolling heart of the South Downs National Park.

From the moment we set off, this route delivers drama and beauty in equal measure. Expect towering white cliffs, sweeping sea views, ancient chalk paths, and endless open skies. This is not just a walk — it’s a true challenge. Long climbs, exposed sections, and big miles demand grit, teamwork, and resilience.

With every mile covered, we move closer to ending youth homelessness. Each step, each climb, each final push is fuelled by the knowledge that this challenge is helping young people move towards safety, stability, and a brighter future.

Starting from The View Hotel in Eastbourne, trekkers will wind their way along dramatic cliff tops and rolling countryside, passing iconic landmarks like Beachy Head, Birling Gap, the awe-inspiring Seven Sisters Cliffs, and through the lush beauty of Seven Sisters Country Park, before meandering via Exceat, Litlington, Alfriston, and Southease, finishing in celebratory style at the Juggs Inn in Kingston Lewes. Our 20km walkers will take in that same stunning coastal scenery and all the magic of the South Downs before crossing the finish in historic Alfriston — the perfect reward for your efforts.

Whether you’re out to push your limits or simply soak up nature’s finest views, this challenge promises memories, camaraderie, and the triumph of the trail.

You must prepare thoroughly for this challenge, but don’t worry, we are here to help you every step of the way with training plans, a kit list, nutrition guidance and a team of mountain leaders to guide you along your chosen route. Should anyone seriously struggle, we will have additional mountain leaders in place to guide individuals down the nearest available escape route off the ridge line to a support vehicle in the valley below, but we know everyone's capable...as long as adequate preparation is done!

Training

For our 40km, we highly recommend dedicating 12 weeks to training. If you are already very fit and active, you may opt for the 10-week training plan.

For our 20km, we strongly suggest committing to 8 weeks of training. If you are in excellent shape and highly active, the 6-week training plan may be suitable.
