The Event

What time do I need to arrive for the SleepOut?

If you're taking part in the physical SleepOut, you will need to arrive between 7pm - 8pm.

Please make sure you eat before arriving.

What do I need to bring with me?

Kit List for the SleepOut:

  • Sleeping bag – a cold weather sleeping bag
  • Thermals – layers are the way forward for staying as warm as possible!
  • Your big coat. Yes, even you northerners will need your big coat!
  • Gloves, hat, scarf, thick socks
  • A full stomach - eat a hot, carb heavy meal before coming to the event. We’ll provide hot drinks and snacks, but you’ll need a good dinner before arriving.
  • Tooth brush and toothpaste
  • A torch
  • A fully charged phone – there will be no power sockets available for you to use during the event

How will you be making the events COVID secure?

Firstly, all of the venues are outside/open to the elements. As we know from the evidence so far, being outside is considerably safer than inside.

In addition, there will be plenty of space to social distance throughout the event.

Finally, we will be encouraging everyone to take a lateral flow test before attending the event.

Is there a registration fee and what does this cover?

Yes, the registration fee is £25 for individuals £40 and for a household taking part from home. Everyone will receive a goody bag for taking part.

By charging a registration fee, it helps us to raise even more money and ensures 100% of your fundraising goes directly to supporting young homeless people.

Will this be the same as sleeping rough?

No - however, it will give you a small insight into what young people face each and every night.

Can I take part as a team?

Yes absolutely – you can join or create a team when registering. You’ll see that we have leaderboards for different locations, where you can compete as a team (and individual) against other companies.

What happens if the weather is really bad?

Young people don’t have the choice to head inside if the weather is wet and as such we’d like you to remain outside wherever possible, providing you’re not putting your health at risk. Top tips for staying dry are using cardboard, sleeping close to buildings to get some shelter and waterproof sleeping bags.

Can those that I live with get involved?

Yes absolutely. Whether they’re your housemates or your family we’d love to have them involved. You can take part virtually, or feel free to bring them along to the event. Just make sure they're all signed up.

How will my sponsors know that I’ve completed the SleepOut?

We recommend taking lots of photos from throughout the SleepOut to share with your donors during and after the SleepOut. You could even record a series of videos to create a vlog – we'd be happy to help you put this together.
